Social conditioning hinders progress in feminism

Otherhood

Nothing can express the way I feel about the social and cultural conditioning of women to want children and marriage than this video.

I am part of the otherhood out of choice. I prefer career over family life. My ambitions would not only be hindered, but forgotten about. And I don't feel marriage or children would enrich my life in any way. I'm opposed to both for two simple reasons:

1. Women threw themselves in front of race horses at the Grand National for emancipation. Women burned their bras in the 70s for equal rights. Yet ALL women run, seek and conquer in order to be enslaved by men in an archaic system set up to control, sexually imprison and make women socially acceptable in society. In short, marriage goes against feminism.

2. Social Darwinism taught us about the importance of eugenics. Marriage and social conditioning prevents women from not only finding the correct mate to breed with, but limits them to one type of dominant gene. I would like a child who excels in the arts, but the likelihood that this child will ever win Olympic gold is minimal, so why shouldn't I be allowed to breed with both Anthony Gormley and Usain Bolt.

I don't get all this hooplah about weddings. I think women just want it because their mates are doing it, because their mum tells them to do it, because society expects them to do it. I am a strong, independent woman (thanks Chandler) and I don't need society to dictate how I should live - I get enough of that from the media. I live by my own rules. In a way that best suits me in order to fulfil my dreams and realise my potential to culminate in ultimate happiness. I will not be judged or pitied - it is my choice. And you can bet your bottom dollar, I'm more content than you.
