Oh the humanity
It feels like we're on the brink of World War III. No one is saying it because it's a scary concept. We've had 60 years of peace in our green and pleasant land. And we're arrogant enough to think that no one will dare attack us in a consistent, organised and politically backed way, but it will happen. The world is in a state of unrest. Everyone is locked in battle.
While this happens, the corporates relish as their stocks and shares soar and resources come down. The human cost is, as ever, huge. And you, the poor and the minorities who will be drafted to die in a battle field alone while the people you love the most struggle and mourn.
Hannah Arendt talked about the banality of evil. That we're forced to kill and inflict misery on others because we programmed to follow orders in order to get ahead in life. People who are free of thought are therefore absconded from guilt. I think it's this that empowers governments, particularly American and British, to arm militias, guerrilla groups, terrorists and dictators. The CIA armed and trained Saddam to fight the Iranians, they installed the Shah in Iran, they armed Bin Laden to fight Saddam and they installed General Pinochet. The war in Syria is raging on to be one of the biggest humanitarian crisis because the West is allowing it to. The Malaysian aeroplane that was shot down happened in order to demonise the Russians, the Cyprus and Palestine fight for their homeland is ignored by the West because they have a vested interest in the situation staying as it is.
They believe that what they're doing is good. However, they don't see that their influence is polarises the people it's designed to rule, as it doesn't represent them or have their best interests at heart. And it's this despondency that creates groups like Islamic State, Taliban and Al Qaeda. They find it easy to recruit as they speak to angry people who feel oppressed and victimised. And they're absconded of guilt, as they believe they are working towards a greater good. So the circle continues.
It can't keep going like this. Soon, the poor and the victimised will realise who their real oppressors are and go further than beheading aid workers in the desert. To be honest, I think a third world war is needed. Something needs to happen to stop us drowning in an ocean of the banality of reality television and talentless celebrities, the struggle to live while the rich get richer, corporate finger in the political pie, the abuse of the planet's resources.
Destroy it all in order to reboot and start again; rationing will make us appreciate how greedy we've been, falling bombs will make us realise how complacent we've become, threat to our freedom will open our eyes to our own tyranny. Land will be reclaimed, justice will be done and politics and society will be reformed.
