Is #GE105 the most boring election ever?
This is a two horse race. In a race that only really has two horses. As we're heading towards yet another hung parliament, has politics lost its mojo?
We're subjected to an American style campaign trail. Apart from Obama gets interviewed by rock god, Dave Grohl and rolls out this socialist inspired design classic
In the UK, our ruling party - the Tories - treated us to this:
If I could vote in America, I'd definitely be voting Obama. And not just because I'm a sucker for pretty things, but because he talks in a normal way, he converses and makes jokes in a normal way and he's from a relatively normal background.
In the UK, our politics is dominated by public school boys. I don't have a problem with this, but I do have a problem with their inability to campaign in a creative and "normal" way, instead of being a carbon copy of politicians from a bygone era.
The way they talk, stand and gesticulate, it's all reminiscent of every politician that has gone before them. Come on Ed, wear jeans, go down the pub, use common language and stop speaking in trite, defensive statements.
The #LeadersDebate showed us that the women are just this. They spoke clearly and empathetically. They really pushed a socialist agenda, highlighting that help for the poorest and most disadvantaged just isn't there. David Cameron not only looked like he was about to cry, but he also sounded like a broken record banging on about how the Tories have pushed the economy back to growth and how they've put 2 million people back into employment. Er... No actually Dave, it's natural growth because the markets have stabilised and the IMF's confidence in the UK (naturally, we're the world's sixth richest country). However, the deficit has actually grown to over £22 billion, as has the national debt at nearly £1.6 trillion (it was £0.76 trillion when they got into government).
The other thing that gets my goat about how out of touch politicians are, is the way they sell their rocky marriages and disabled son, the way they're photographed feeding lambs or eating bacon sandwiches. Why not do what Syriza in Greece did.
Actually go to the hardest hit areas and talk to people. Or instead of feeding lambs, how about volunteering at a soup kitchen or a halfway house or organisations that help asylum seekers or hold symposiums with people across the NHS and all key public services to hear their gripes. He might actually get some radical, worthwhile policies out of it! Whatever your thoughts about these subjects, seeing a PM getting his hands dirty would do wonders for his public image. But kissing babies and stepping off buses is much easier than facing the disillusioned electorate and answering some really difficult questions. Grow a pair and get out there - if you had faith in your party, in your leadership and in your policies, you would do it. If you had a genuine love for your country and its people, you would do it. If you had an ounce of humanity and humility, you would do it. It's a sad state of affairs when the only one willing to rock the boat and face criticism is Nigel fucking Farage.
