I learn, therefore I'm a nihilist
Life should be a constant journey of growth and enlightenment. The father of Socrates understood that it is impossible to know everything, Russeau argued that opinions change and Kant said we should always behave morally.
Despite all this analysis, we all live in a fantasy, a vanity and a fallacy that we are always right and it's all about self.
Several years ago, without the funds to further my education, I embarked on a spiritual journey of self-improvement. However, the more I learn the simpler the solution seems to be.
1. Human rights
Most of our disgust and outrage comes from human rights violations. From the refugee crisis to austerity cuts, it plays into the narrative of suffering that can only be allevated by rich and powerful few, the West.
We love charity. We make a fool of ourselves or push the boundaries in the name of this perceived altruism. However, only a small proportion of the money raised actually makes it to the cause. And these countries are plunged into poverty due to taxation and loans by governments and the IMF. You can never prosper if all the money you get goes to pay off debt.
We sit on our high horse, judging China and Saudi Arabia over their human rights violations, but we are not virtuous. We give these countries a lot of money and trade. We sell them arms so they can abuse people.
