Simone de Beauvoir: "Women aren't born, they're made."
Writer of The Second Sex (which I haven't read) Simone de Beauvoir in a rare TV interview talks about how women are products of their environment.
From womb to tomb, we're conditioned to act, think and be a certain way, as determined by men and culturally passed down from generation to generation from the prehistoric era to today.
For centuries, radicals thought a left-wing political or societal change would address the issues of women. de Beauvoir argues the destiny of women will still be in the hands of men - who hold all the economic power - therefore feminism is a separate struggle.
Scarily, we've not moved much further on from the mid-70s.
