Vampire movie Midnight Son jumps on Twilight bandwagon
From the director of game-changing Blair Witch Project and was premiered at Film 4’s Frightfest comes another vampire falls in love horror film.
This is a classic case of a film that promises so much. A “cross between Let The Right One In and Martin” they said. What they meant to say was “a low-budget Twilight rip-off meets city based Hills Have Eyes rip-off”.
The story centres around Jacob (a la Twilight), played by Zak Kilberg. A pasty, moody, self-tortured soul who’s forced to work nights as a security guard by a rare skin condition that makes him allergic to sun… Can you guess where this is going? He has an insatiable appetite for blood, which he maintains with regular visits to his local butcher who furnishes him with animal blood.

He then meets Mary (playing on the Christian subtext of Twilight, maybe), played by Maya Parish – someone you won’t recognise from How I Met Your Mother. She’s a wild child bartender and they instantly fall in love. Unfortunately, Jacob’s ‘condition’ worsens and his increasingly bizarre behaviour and a trail of ‘grizzly’ murders lead straight to him.
This is a truly awful film. If you like horrors or vampire films, don’t watch this. There are plenty of amazing vampires movies (Twilight not being one of them) and this is surplus to requirements. The low rate camera work, no frills location, the plagiarised plot and the no mark actors create a film that was born to jump on the Twilight phenomena – nothing more.
