Bloc Party are all about Intimacy
Bloc Party are back with a vengeance with their third studio album Intimacy. The album discreetly arrived in July 2008 after an exclusive play on Radio 1 and a rather ominous countdown on their website. It has since collected a nomination for vinyl art of the year!
The foursome first formed at Reading Festival in 2008, burst onto the scene with Mercury nominated album Silent Alarm. Their unique blend of guitar music you can dance to sent them rocketing to super-stardom. Single Mercury aptly sets the tone for the album. Kele’s edgy vocals rip through a dark track with its deep bass-lines and fantastic brass section, parts of it reminded me of industrial drum n bass in the 90s.
Stand-out track for me was Talon - heavy guitars and punchy, it grabbed you by the hair and swung you around until you begged for mercy. The track stood out from an ocean of ambient chill-out tracks like music-box inspired Signs, beautiful melodic Biko and Ion Square. The track Zephyrus had hints of single from second album The Prayer.
The new album gives us more of the same, tracks that wouldn’t be out of place at a rock festival or in Ibiza. Fantastic production, excellent arrangements come together to make a well-rounded album that you can listen to over and over.
