Bat For Lashes' Sexwitch is the Ronseal of albums
It's both sexy and bewitching, so does exactly what it says on the tin.
This album has rarely been off the playlist since its release a month ago. From the first radio play of Helelyos, I was entranced. Hypnotised by the rhythmic repetition of percussion, over-layed with the mystical, minimalistic strings.
The rest of the album is equally unpronounceable, but filled with such soulful Eastern psychedelia, you're too spellbound to care about such nuances as titles and tracklistings.
Instead, you're transported to a higher plane - unlocking parts of your inner conscious, only previously available to trips on acid. It brings out something meditative, yet primeval.
However, not wanting to lead you into a false sense of security, closing track War in Peace bucks the trend. It sticks to psychedelia, but of the 60s, British variety.
I've loved Bat For Lashes (aka Natasha Khan) since she released What's A Girl To Do from her debut album Fur And Gold back in 2006.
And now, with her fourth album, she continues to be dark, edgy, poetic and atmospheric. Until now, I had FKA Twigs down as innovative and contemporary with a massive dollop of eroticism. Bat For Lashes' Sexwitch has left her behind in a puff of smoke.
