Shane Meadows acclaimed TV show This Is England is back in the 90s.

You know what they say. If you remember the 90s, you were probably too young to go raving - like me. So Shane Meadows continues his Northern odyssey through the years; from the skinhead, ska loving racists of 1983 to incest, rape and murder in 1988. This Is England has never shied away from uncomfortable topics. And This Is England '90 promises more of the same, but with a Stone Roses soundtrack.

If you watched the trials and tribulations of Woody, Lol, Shaun, Smell and Combo; you'll be as on the edge of your seat about this as I am. The last series was gut-wrenching as it explored love, loss, betrayal, depression, guilt and childhood scarring.

Vicky McClure was magnificent as Lol. You spent the whole series wanting to hug her; that's when you weren't matching her tear for tear. You felt for Lol as you watched her battle childhood demons of being raped by her father as she herself struggles with motherhood. Then dealing with the loss of her one true love Woody - played by charming and versatile actor Joe Gilgun - through her own infidelity.

Before that, we all cried as Milky was brutally beaten to a pulp for no reason by his friend Combo, a neo-Nazi who weirdly adopted black culture.

This Is England is a jewel in Channel 4's crown. Along with Nathan Barley, Top Boy and Brasseye, it challenges how we see the world. It pulls no punches with its narrative and cuts very close to the bone with humour. And it reflects modern culture, but a recognisable one that we can all relate to... Well, the party side of it anyway.
